General Information
Dear readers,
'Fire-Side Picture Alphabet' by Various Authors with illustrator John Andrew was published in 1858.
The content on this website is made possible courtesy of
Project Gutenberg. Their volunteers have done a tremendous job of digitizing tens of thousands of books and then making them available for free download. I've selected some of the books and formatted them on my websites for easy reading from iPhone, Android, and similar mobile phones.
The images on this website are taken from http://www.gutenberg.org/files/22399/22399-h/22399-h.htm.
Because of the website design, I've split the story into 24 sections and added a title to each section.

POETICAL PREFACE
TO THE
FIRESIDE PICTURE ALPHABET.
TO PRECEPTORS.
With learning may laughter be found;
"'Tis good to be merry and wise;"
To gayly get over the ground,
As higher and higher we rise.
Some children their letters may learn,
While others will surely do more,
As the subjects suggestively turn
To matters not thought of before.
Descriptions and pictures combined
Are here made attractive and clear;
So suited that children may find
From error the truth to appear.
