26. In Coniston Village

In Coniston Village.- Tiie picturesque cohnir-waslied houses, with i<rey slate roofs, of Coniston are typical of southern Lakeland and are a source of continual delight to the visitor.

The Yewdale Valley. - This has been described by Ruskin as "the most beautiful valley in England," and in autumn, when the hillsides are a blaze of golden bracken and purple heather, interspersed with grej', lichen-covered slabs of rock, such a eulogy is well deserved,

Coniston Lake from Beacon Crags. - Many people consider this view from the foot of the lake, looking towards the "delectable mountains" of Lakeland, to be the finest the district affords. Helvellyn fills in the distant background.

Blea Tarn, Langdale. - Lakeland abounds in small sheets of water, called tarns, most of which nestle in the upper recesses of its fells and are a wonderful addition to the landscape.

Blea Tarn is quite one of the choicest of these, due greatly to the proximity of the Langdale Pikes, seen in the background.
